Student Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA)
The Culver-Stockton College Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Student Chapter was founded in 1997. Student membership provides students access to the network of resources provided by the Institute of Management Accountants, the Heartland Council of the IMA, and the Quincy Area Chapter of the IMA. Student members are able to attend the Annual IMA Conference (held annually in June) and the National Student Leadership Conference (held annually in November). In addition to attendance at the conferences, students are able to network with business professionals at the meetings of the Quincy Area Chapter of the IMA. Both the Quincy Area Chapter of the IMA and the Heartland Council of the IMA provide financial support for students to attend Annual IMA conference and the Student Leadership conference. In addition, the National IMA provides annual scholarship awards, and Culver-Stockton College students have been annual recipients of these scholarships, which range from $1,000 to $5,000. The C-SC IMA Chapter has annually had a student member who was a scholarship recipient each year from 2000-2019. In 2019, a student member was recognized as the $5,000 Stuart Cameron McCleod Scholarship recipient, which is the top scholarship recipient in the nation. A cumulative total of over $95,000 in IMA scholarships has been awarded to Culver-Stockton College students during the past nineteen years.
The IMA Student Chapter also competes in numerous IMA programs, including the Award of Excellence. The IMA Student Chapter has been recognized numerous times with the Outstanding Student Chapter award for being a top chapter in the nation, including in 2018. Individual student members have competed annually in the manuscript competition. The IMA Student Chapter also competes in the annual Clark Johnson Achievement Award, winning this competition in 2008 and 2013.
In addition to participation in competitions, the IMA Student Chapter is actively involved in community service. The members coordinated a campaign to fundraise for the college’s annual fund, and each year, the members coordinate the adoption of a family providing Christmas gifts for children. The IMA Student Chapter assists in coordinating and participating in the Department’s Business Leadership Exchange (speaker series). IMA student leaders assist with admissions days - both presentations and individual student contacts. The IMA members also assist in the coordination and programming for the Business, Education, and Law Division’s annual High School Visit Day.
